When I first came across deviantArt, I had to find out what deviant meant--strangely enough, the word made me think of devious. But, I thought, art isn't evil--at least, not enough to get caught.

differing from the norm or social standards of society.





That's a pretty lofty standard for a site.

Yet, a little over two years passed until I joined the deviantArtists community--that is, when I bought myself a $200 digital camera from high school graduation money--my first digital camera. Artistically, I have always considered myself a writer first. However, being a writer--and, therefore, an artist--, I feel like I need to know and experience a little bit of everything--that's what a good artist is: a well-rounded and adventurous individual in the world.

On top of that, I really need to work on being more in the real world than in my mind when I

have to be--one woman jokingly calls me 'the space cadet' because I'm apparently that

spacey. I need to be more observant and notice the little things that add spice to any writing--and to living.

Hopefully, by honing my skills as a photographer through the deviantArt community, I can become a better artist and a better person.

I also just like to admire other photographers--and, hopefully, graze off of their comments to find what we think a good photograph is.

Yes, graze--like a sheep.

Ironically, it's not very deviant to be a sheep. But, you've got to learn somehow.

I admire what many of the photographers here do; I am intrigued by what their eyes see everyday thousands of miles away from what my own eyes see. It's like picking up a National

Geographic magazine!--but I don't know the stories behind the photographs sometimes, which is intriguing. There are true deviants here.

My ultimate mission? I plan to be deviant all my life.
